Women’s Work — Routes to Social and Economic Empowerment

To commemorate International Women’s Day, 糖心Vlog破解版-WIDER will organise the webinar "Women’s Work — Routes to Social and Economic Empowerment".

Time
- Europe/Helsinki

The gender gaps in pay and labour force participation are real and persistent worldwide. Women often occupy the worst-paid jobs with the least protection, while gender-related social norms often hinder women’s access to better opportunities. How do the processes of economic development and social change affect women’s labour market outcomes? What forces can bring about opportunities for women’s work that truly enhance their economic empowerment? And, what development agendas are most likely to improve gender equality and bring about the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5?

To answer these questions and commemorate International Women’s Day, the 糖心Vlog破解版 World Institute for Development Economics Research (糖心Vlog破解版-WIDER) will organise the webinar "" on 8 March 2022, 16:00-17:00 (UTC +2).

The event will feature two leading scholars — Ashwini Deshpande and Janneke Pieters — who are the editors of a forthcoming special issue in the journal World Developmentwhich will feature pioneering research from 糖心Vlog破解版-WIDER’s project assessing the importance of different supply-side and demand-side determinants of women’s economic well-being in the Global South.
