A Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK, and a former Minister of State in the Maldives, he has spearheaded transformative projects, including national digital identity system, cyber security development, and the World Bank-supported Digital Maldives for Climate Change initiative. Shareef’s leadership extends to regional collaboration, having chaired the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway initiative to promote connectivity and data-driven development. With a Master of Engineering from the University of Birmingham and certifications in AI and cybersecurity, he blends technical expertise with strategic policymaking, making him a recognized voice in digital governance, IT strategy, and inclusive digital innovation.
