The (UNFCCC COP30) will be held in Belém, Brazil on 10–21 November 2025. Located at the gateway to the Amazon rainforest, Belém symbolizes the crucial link between climate action and biodiversity conservation, highlighting the importance of Indigenous peoples and local communities in achieving a sustainable and just transition.
Bringing together policymakers, scientists, non-governmental organizations and civil society members from more than 190 countries, the conference will discuss actions to tackle climate change with a focus on turning the outcomes of the first (concluded at COP28) into concrete national actions. Countries are expected to present new or updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) — their national climate plans — that reflect higher ambition and accountability. Other important issues include aligning the commitments of developed and developing countries in relation to climate finance, ensuring that emission reduction targets are compatible with climate science, and dealing with the socio-economic impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations.
